These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Splitsies iOS application and related services.
In these Terms, “Splitsies”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of Splitsies identified in Section 25.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating a Splitsies account, accessing the app or using the service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Splitsies Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not create an account or use Splitsies.
Where you use Splitsies on behalf of another person or organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on their behalf.
2. Eligibility and age rating
Splitsies has an App Store age rating of 4+.
The App Store age rating describes the content and capabilities of the app. It does not determine the minimum age required to create an account.
You must be at least 13 years old to create or use a Splitsies account.
If the law where you live requires you to be older or requires permission from a parent or guardian, you may use Splitsies only after satisfying those requirements.
You must provide accurate information about your age and birth year.
Splitsies is not intended for children under 13. A parent or guardian must not create an account on behalf of a child under 13.
We may suspend or delete an account if we reasonably believe that the account belongs to someone who does not meet these eligibility requirements.
3. Your account
An account is required to use Splitsies.
You may register using:
- Email authentication
- Sign in with Apple
- Google Sign-In
You agree to:
- Provide accurate and reasonably current account information
- Keep your login credentials secure
- Not share access to your account with another person
- Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access
- Accept responsibility for activity carried out through your account, except where caused by our failure to use reasonable care
You must not:
- Impersonate another person
- Create a misleading identity
- Use account details that you are not authorised to use
- Register a username that infringes another person’s rights
We may require you to change a username that is deceptive, abusive, unlawful or infringes another person’s rights.
Contact support@splitsies.org if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Licence to use Splitsies
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use Splitsies for personal, non-commercial record-keeping purposes.
You may use the app only on devices and through accounts that you are authorised to use.
This licence does not transfer ownership of Splitsies, its software, branding or intellectual property to you.
Your use of the iOS application may also be subject to the applicable terms of the Apple App Store.
5. What Splitsies does
Splitsies allows users to:
- Create groups
- Invite other registered users
- Record shared expenses
- Specify who paid
- Specify who participated in an expense
- Calculate who owes whom
- Simplify balances into suggested settlements
- Record that a settlement occurred
- View and export expense information
Splitsies is a record-keeping and calculation tool only.
6. No payment or financial service
Splitsies does not:
- Hold user funds
- Transfer money
- Process repayments
- Connect to bank accounts
- Connect to credit or debit cards
- Provide credit
- Provide loans
- Collect debts
- Confirm that a legally enforceable debt exists
- Provide financial, tax, accounting or legal advice
Recording an expense or settlement in Splitsies does not transfer money and does not independently prove that a payment occurred.
Users must arrange payments separately through a method of their choice.
You are responsible for checking the recipient, amount and accuracy of any payment you make outside Splitsies.
7. Expense records and calculations
Expense information is supplied by users.
Splitsies may calculate balances and suggest settlements based on the information entered into the app.
Those calculations may be affected by:
- Incorrect amounts
- Incorrect participants
- Incorrect payer information
- Incorrect currency selections
- Rounding
- Edited or deleted entries
- Incomplete group records
- Software or connectivity errors
You are responsible for reviewing all expenses, balances and settlement suggestions before relying on them.
Splitsies does not independently verify expense records, purchases, debts or settlements.
A balance displayed by Splitsies is not a legal determination that one person owes money to another.
8. Group access and editing
Information entered into a group may be visible to every member of that group.
Depending on their permissions, group members may be able to create, edit or delete expenses and record settlements.
Changes made by one member may affect the balances displayed to every other member.
You are responsible for:
- Inviting only people who should have access to a group
- Reviewing changes made by other members
- Correcting inaccurate records
- Protecting invitation links and profile codes
- Resolving disagreements directly with other members
We may provide activity or change information, but we do not guarantee that every previous version of an expense will remain available or recoverable.
9. Disputes between users
Splitsies does not decide whether an expense, repayment or debt is valid.
Users are responsible for resolving disagreements directly, including disputes about:
- Whether an expense occurred
- Who participated in an expense
- Who agreed to pay
- Whether an amount is correct
- Whether a settlement or repayment occurred
- Whether an entry should be edited or deleted
Splitsies is not a party to arrangements between group members.
Splitsies is not responsible for collecting, enforcing or resolving any alleged debt between users.
10. Your content and records
You retain any rights you have in information you submit to Splitsies.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, reproduce, process and display that information solely as reasonably necessary to:
- Operate Splitsies
- Display information to authorised group members
- Calculate balances
- Provide data exports
- Maintain security
- Enforce these Terms
- Comply with legal obligations
You confirm that you have the right to enter and share the information you submit.
You must not enter content that unlawfully reveals another person’s confidential or personal information.
You should avoid placing sensitive personal information in group names, expense descriptions or notes.
11. Acceptable use

- Attempt unlawful debt collection
- Enter illegal, abusive, defamatory or infringing content
- Access another person’s account without permission
- Share invitation links with unauthorised people
- Scrape or systematically extract information
- Probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the service without permission
- Bypass security or access-control measures
- Reverse-engineer or modify Splitsies except where applicable law expressly permits it
- Introduce malware or harmful code
- Interfere with the operation of Splitsies
- Use automated systems in a manner that places an unreasonable load on the service
- Use Splitsies for any unlawful purpose
Minimal social interaction within the app does not remove your obligation to use it responsibly.
12. Notifications and marketing
Splitsies may send service notifications about matters including:
- Group invitations
- Settlement activity
- Account security
- Important service changes
With your permission, we may also send:
- Product announcements
- Feature updates
- Promotional or marketing messages
You can disable optional marketing notifications through Splitsies or your iOS notification settings without closing your account.
Some operational, legal or security information may still be displayed inside the app where necessary to provide or protect the service.
13. Availability and changes to Splitsies
We may add, remove, change or discontinue features.
Splitsies may occasionally be unavailable because of:
- Maintenance
- Software updates
- Service-provider outages
- Network problems
- Security incidents
- Events outside our reasonable control
We do not guarantee that Splitsies will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
We may release private-beta, beta or experimental features. Such features may be incomplete, contain errors, change significantly or be discontinued without notice.
14. Future paid features

We may introduce subscriptions, in-app purchases or other paid features in the future.
Before you purchase a paid feature, we will display the applicable:
- Price
- Billing period
- Included features

- Cancellation method
- Additional purchase terms
Purchases made through the iOS app will be processed through Apple’s in-app purchase system where required.
Apple may handle payment processing, billing, subscription management, cancellations and refunds under Apple’s applicable terms and policies.
Introducing a paid feature will not automatically charge you without your authorisation.
15. Third-party services
Splitsies relies on third-party services, including Supabase, Apple and Google.
Your use of those services may also be governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control. This does not limit any responsibility that cannot legally be excluded.

Splitsies and its related:
- Software
- Interface designs
- Illustrations
- Generated avatar designs

are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Except for the limited licence granted under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.
Splitsies™, its name, logo and associated branding are used as trade marks of the operator identified in Section 25.
You may not use Splitsies branding in a manner that suggests sponsorship, endorsement, partnership or affiliation without prior written permission.
17. Feedback
You may send suggestions or feedback about Splitsies.
You permit us to use that feedback without restriction or payment to you, provided that we do not publicly identify you as its source without permission.
18. Suspension and termination
We may restrict, suspend or terminate access where we reasonably believe that:
- You have violated these Terms
- Your account creates a security risk
- Your activity may harm another person
- Your activity may expose us or another person to legal liability
- Suspension is required by law
- Splitsies or the relevant part of the service is being discontinued
Where reasonably appropriate, we may give you notice and an opportunity to address the issue.
We may act without advance notice where immediate action is reasonably necessary to prevent harm, fraud, unauthorised access or a security incident.
You may stop using Splitsies at any time.
19. Account deletion
You can initiate account deletion inside Splitsies.
After deletion:
- You will lose access to your account.
- Your identifying profile information will be anonymised in active Splitsies systems as part of the deletion process.
- Shared expense records may remain where needed to preserve other members’ group histories.
- Retained records may refer to you using a generic label such as “Former member”.
- Residual copies in routine backups, technical logs or security systems will be deleted or anonymised within three months, unless longer retention is reasonably required by law, for security purposes or to resolve a dispute.
- Deletion does not reverse payments made outside Splitsies.
- Information independently exported, copied or retained by another user cannot be deleted by Splitsies.
You should export any information you wish to keep before deleting your account.
20. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Splitsies is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
We do not warrant that:

- A recorded settlement means that money was transferred
- Other users will enter accurate information
- Group members will not edit or delete information

- Exported information will satisfy accounting, tax or legal requirements
Nothing in these Terms excludes statutory guarantees, rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

- New features
- Changes to the service
- Changes in law
- Security requirements
- Changes to our business or service providers
Where a change is material, we may provide advance notice through the app or another appropriate method.

You and Splitsies submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.
Before starting formal proceedings, you are encouraged to contact us and attempt to resolve the matter informally.
24. General terms
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision or our right to enforce it later.
You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our permission.
We may transfer our rights and obligations as part of an incorporation, restructuring, financing, sale or transfer of Splitsies, subject to applicable law.
